Palantir Out of the NHS
Opposing surveillance tech Palantir’s expanding NHS contracts given its deep ties to Israeli military intelligence.
What is happening?
In November 2023 NHS England handed Palantir a £330 million contract to run the Federated Data Platform (FDP), the system that brings together patient data across NHS trusts. Palantir is a US surveillance technology company. In January 2024 it announced a partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Defence to deploy its technology for “war-related missions”, and a UN report found reasonable grounds to believe it has supplied automatic predictive policing technology and its AI platform to Israel during the genocide in Gaza. The same company built “ImmigrationOS” for ICE, the system behind mass deportation logistics in the US.
- In June 2026 the cross-party Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee called on the government to terminate the contract because Palantir supports “highly controversial policies and activities”.
- Around 50,000 patients have written to their local trust boards urging them not to adopt the FDP.
- The BMA has committed to lobbying nationally against Palantir and supports members who refuse to engage with the FDP. UNISON has passed motions demanding action.
- The contract comes up for review in February 2027. That is the pressure point.
Why health workers should act
Patients trust the NHS with the most sensitive data there is. Handing it to a company embedded in military targeting and deportation operations corrodes that trust and puts confidentiality at risk: Palantir’s health platform (Foundry) and its military platform (Gotham) are built to interoperate, and the FDP locks the NHS into a single supplier with a record of enabling human rights abuses. As health workers we can refuse to let our patients’ data fund and legitimise this company.
Take Action
Sign the Petition
Add your name to the Say No to Palantir in the NHS petition calling on NHS England to end the contract.
Write to Your Trust
Good Law Project’s tool sends a letter to your local trust board urging them not to adopt Palantir’s platform. Around 50,000 patients have already done it.
Organise Locally
Medact’s action pack helps local groups lobby their trust or Integrated Care Board to refuse the FDP.
Raise It in Your Union
The BMA and UNISON already have positions against Palantir. Ask your branch to pass a motion and tell your employer.
